Sunday, December 5 at 21 in the parish church of St. Ambrose was revealed the restoration of the chapel of the Baptistery, the first chapel to the right into the church.
Before the real "revelation", takes the restorer, Francesca Olcese, and different personalities. Leading the night was Marco Damonte, representing the cultural circle Kairos, in the years that followed the restoration of two other chapels also placed in the right nave of the collegiate church of Saint Ambrose: the host and the wooden crucifix that shows Altarpiece of St Ambrose on the Barbagelata. Gradually succeeded greetings authorities agreed, first Bishop Wolf, then the Mayor Delfino and manager of the diocesan office for cultural Pacini. The greeting of the bishop focused on the beauty and goodness of restoration work going to recover not only from the artistic point of view but also from the liturgical point of view an essential element which the Baptistery, which is returned to its primary function , that of being the place of baptism for Christians. The Sacrament of Baptism is the foundation of the Christian life, through it all the baptized become part of the Church as God's children and participate in its mission. The intervention of the mayor, that recognized the meritorious efforts of the club Kairos, he went straight to the importance of the recovery of the sacredness of the celebration, perhaps something that is sometimes overlooked, but which must be sought in respect of all, even our ancestors who have left evidence of deep faith and community spirit. The head of the diocesan office focused on the difficulties of coordinating work and decide which recovery should be pursued and welcomed the interest and support in this and had on previous occasions. The restorer, leaving plenty of details at the end of the meeting, when it is actually revealed the eyes of all the restoration work, placed the figure of Antonio Brilla, Savona author of the sculptural group representing the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River, revealing a side of the story of being a great-grandson of the artist, a fact which has doubled his energies in order to deliver the work in all its original splendor. The choir "Collegium Gameraniensis" Stella Gameragna has graced the evening with three songs beautifully sung, drawn from the Gregorian repertoire and early baroque period that it is precisely this "Collegium". To settle the action, took the guest Lazzoni Sr. Maria Cristina, mother general of the 'Institute of the Daughters Immaculate Virgin Mary, "which, starting from the Baptistery of Shine, illustrated how the light shone in the Baptism of the figure of Mother Teresa Vallerga, founder of the school and called its object in the baptistery of the evening. The mother's impassioned words have warmed the atmosphere, making it really intensified the night: in fact, the small figure of Mother Teresa Vallerga it has emerged just as bright a fellow citizen to be proud of. The evening ended with the removal of the curtain that hid the chapel and with the lighting of the new lights: surprised those present were able to admire the beauty of the sculptural group, which had been obscured by time and instead now shows new details and unexpected colors, thanks to the expert efforts of the young restorer Francesca Olcese.
